Standard EN SampleTest Methods for External Fire Exposure to Roofs
Also Known As:
DD CEN/TS 1187:2012 is a technical specification that outlines four methods for assessing the performance of roofs when exposed to external fire. These methods include testing with burning brands, burning brands and wind, burning brands, wind, and supplementary radiant heat, and two stages incorporating burning brands, wind, and supplementary radiant heat.
The purpose of these tests is to evaluate various aspects of roof performance during a fire, including fire spread across the external surface of the roof, fire spread within the roof, fire penetration, and the production of flaming droplets or debris falling from the roof.
It is important to note that tests 2 and 3 are not applicable to roofs with irregular shapes or roof-mounted appliances such as ventilators and roof lights. Additionally, there is no implied ranking order among the four tests, and they cannot be substituted or exchanged for one another. Each test stands independently.
