Standard EN SampleGypsum Binders and Gypsum Plasters: Definitions and Requirements
Also Known As:
BS EN 13279-1:2008 is a European standard that outlines the definitions and requirements for gypsum binders and gypsum plasters used in construction. The standard covers powder products based on gypsum binder, including premixed gypsum building plasters that are applied as a finishing material on walls and ceilings. These products are formulated with additives, admixtures, aggregates, and other binders to meet specific application requirements.
The standard applies to both manual and mechanical applications of gypsum binders, as well as further processed products such as gypsum blocks, plasterboards, and ceiling elements. It also includes gypsum mortar for internal, non-load-bearing partitions that are not exposed to water. However, it does not cover calcium sulfate used as a binder for floor screeds.
BS EN 13279-1:2008 defines reference tests for technical characteristics and provides guidelines for evaluating the conformity of the products. The use of building lime as an additional binder, alongside gypsum binder, is allowed and covered by the standard, depending on the active binding component. If gypsum binder is the main component, then the plaster is covered by this standard. If building lime is the primary active binding component, then the plaster is covered by EN 998-1.
