Standard EN SampleTesting Hardened Concrete: Determination of the Chloride Migration Coefficient
Also Known As:
BS EN 12390-18:2021 is a standard that specifies the procedure for determining the non-steady-state chloride migration coefficient of hardened concrete specimens. The test is conducted at a specified age of the concrete, and it provides a measure of the resistance of the concrete against chloride penetration. This test is an important indicator of the durability of the concrete.
It should be noted that the test procedure does not consider any interaction between the concrete and the saline solution over time. Therefore, the results solely reflect the immediate resistance of the concrete against chloride migration.
The standard also mentions that the test procedure is not applicable to concrete specimens with surface treatments such as silanes. Additionally, if the concrete contains aggregate or other embedded elements that are electrically conductive, it can influence the magnitude of chloride migration. In such cases, threshold values are established to account for this variability and prevent direct comparison of chloride migration values between concretes with significantly different conductive properties.
