Standard EN SampleTesting Fresh Concrete: Self-Compacting Concrete Slump-Flow Test
Also Known As:
The BS EN 12350-8:2019 standard provides a standardized procedure for determining the slump-flow and t500 time of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The test is specifically designed for specimens with a declared value of D for the coarsest fraction of aggregates used in the concrete, which should not exceed 40 mm.
The main focus of this standard is to assess the flow properties of SCC during its fresh state. The slump-flow test measures the horizontal spread of the SCC as it freely flows outwards from a cone-shaped mold. This measurement is crucial in assessing the workability and flowability characteristics of SCC, which is essential for its successful application in various construction projects.
Furthermore, the standard specifies the t500 time, which refers to the time taken for the SCC to reach a diameter of 500 mm after being released from the concrete cone. This measurement provides additional information about the rate at which SCC spreads, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of its flow properties.
