Prefabricated Reinforced Components of Lightweight Aggregate Concrete with Open Structure with Structural or Non-Structural Reinforcement
Also Known As:
BS EN 1520:2011 is a European standard that specifies the requirements for prefabricated reinforced components made of lightweight aggregate concrete with an open structure. These components can be used in both structural and non-structural applications in building construction.
The standard covers a wide range of components including loadbearing wall components, retaining wall components, roof components, floor components, linear components, non-loadbearing wall components, cladding components, small box culverts, and components for noise barriers. These components not only provide loadbearing and encasing functions but can also offer fire resistance, sound insulation, and thermal insulation.
The reinforced components covered by this standard are primarily intended to be subjected to predominantly non-dynamic actions. However, special measures can be introduced in the relevant clauses of the standard to account for dynamic actions. The term "reinforced" in this standard refers to the use of reinforcement for both structural and non-structural purposes.
It is important to note that this standard does not provide rules for the application of these components in structures, cover joints (except their strength), fixtures, or finishes for external components. For the use of LAC components in noise barriers, they must also meet the requirements specified in EN 14388.
