Standard EN SamplePrecast Concrete Products: Beam-and-Block Floor Systems - Beams
Also Known As:
This European Standard, BS EN 15037-1:2008, focuses on the requirements and performance criteria for precast beams made of reinforced or prestressed normal or lightweight concrete. These beams can have clay shells or be used in conjunction with blocks and cast in-situ concrete for the construction of beam-and-block floor and roof systems.
The standard specifies that the total depth of the beam must be between 60 mm and 300 mm, and the beams should be spaced at centers of no more than 1,00 m. If the depth exceeds this range, the precast beams must comply with EN 13225.
The products covered by this standard are intended for use as structural floor and roof systems, including parking areas for light vehicles under traffic category F of EN 1991-1-1:2002. These products are not designed to withstand fatigue loading but can be used in seismic areas as long as they meet the specific requirements for such use.
Annex B of the standard provides examples of different types of floor and roof systems that can be constructed using these precast beams, giving a further understanding of their intended applications.
