Standard EN SampleSpecification for Mortar for Masonry. Masonry Mortar
Also Known As:
The BS EN 998-2:2016 standard outlines the requirements for factory-made masonry mortars used in various masonry structures such as walls, columns, and partitions in both building and civil engineering projects. The standard focuses on the performance of fresh and hardened mortar, defining parameters such as workable life, chloride content, air content, density, compressive strength, and bond strength. These performance criteria are measured using specific test methods recommended in separate European Standards.
In addition to performance requirements, the standard also addresses the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) of the mortar product. This ensures that the quality and characteristics of the mortar remain consistent over time. The standard includes marking requirements for products that comply with its specifications.
It is important to note that the standard covers only factory-made masonry mortars and excludes site-made mortar. However, certain parts of the standard may still be applicable to site-made mortar when used in conjunction with relevant codes of application and national specifications.
