Standard EN SampleRecommendations for the Design of Bridges to BS EN 1993
Also Known As:
PD 6695-2:2008+A1:2012 is a Pubished Document that provides additional guidance and non-contradictory complementary information for the design of steel bridge components in the UK. It is intended to be used in conjunction with BS EN 1993-2, BS EN 1993-1-5, BS EN 1993-1-7, BS EN 1993-1-8, and their UK National Annexes. The document specifically focuses on the static design of steel bridges, covering topics such as slenderness parameters, buckling and bending resistance of diaphragms, bridge restraints, and other selected areas.
It is important to note that PD 6695-2 only applies to bridges executed according to BS EN 1090-2. While it may also be relevant to the steel elements of composite bridges, consideration must be given to BS EN 1994. Certain aspects are outside the scope of PD 6695-2, such as the detailing of components for seismic design, design of parapets, safety fences, and other ancillary items. Additionally, it does not fully address cable-supported bridges in terms of cable strength, stiffness, and testing, for which BS EN 1993-1-11 should be consulted. Guidance on fatigue and brittle fracture resistance can be obtained from PD 6695-1-9 and PD 6695-1-10 respectively for these types of bridges.
