BS EN 13791:2019 is a standard that provides methods and procedures for assessing the in-situ compressive strength of concrete in structures and precast concrete components. The standard covers both direct methods, such as core testing, and indirect methods, such as ultra-sonic pulse velocity and rebound number. The in-situ compressive strength is based on 2:1 cores of diameter ? 75 mm, in alignment with the design standard EN 1992-1-1.
This standard also provides principles and guidance for establishing the relationships between test results from indirect methods and the in-situ compressive strength. It offers procedures and guidance for evaluating the conformity of the compressive strength of concrete supplied to structures under construction, especially in cases where there is doubt about the quality of execution or if standard tests indicate doubt.
However, it is important to note that this standard does not include the assessment of other concrete properties, such as durability-related properties. It is also not intended for the assessment of conformity of concrete compressive strength according to EN 206 or EN 13369, except as indicated in specific clauses of EN 206:2013+A1:2016. Additionally, the standard does not cover the procedures or criteria for routine conformity control of precast concrete components using direct or indirect measurements of the in-situ strength.
