Drilling and Foundation Equipment - Safety - Common Requirements
Also Known As:
The BS EN 16228-1:2014 standard specifies the common safety requirements for drilling and foundation equipment. This includes equipment used in drilling and foundation applications such as transport, assembly, dismantling, maintenance, storage, and scrapping. The standard focuses on addressing significant hazards associated with these machines, both during their intended use and potential misuse throughout their entire lifecycle.
It is worth noting that this standard is applicable to various types of drilling and foundation equipment and is meant to be used in conjunction with specific parts (Parts 2 to 7) that are tailored for each type of equipment. These specific parts supplement or modify the requirements outlined in Part 1 based on the particular characteristics and functions of the equipment.
However, the standard does exclude certain machines such as tunnelling machines, unshielded tunnel boring machines, rodless shaft boring machines for rock, raise boring machines, and drill rigs used in the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the standard does not cover offshore applications and specific requirements for potentially explosive atmospheres, which may require adherence to additional regulations beyond the scope of this standard.
