Also Known As:
BS 8779:2022 is a British Standard that provides recommendations and guidance for the assessment, maintenance, and repair of masonry parapets used in highway structures. The standard is applicable to both reinforced and unreinforced masonry parapets of certain lengths. For unreinforced parapets, it is applicable to those with a length of 10 meters or greater, or those with movement joints and a minimum panel length between joints of 10 meters. For reinforced parapets, it is applicable to those with panel lengths of 2 meters or greater.
This standard is intended to be used by various stakeholders involved in the management of highway structures, including highway authorities, railway authorities, designers, and contractors. Some examples of these stakeholders include County, District, and Unitary Councils, Network Rail, and Transport for London, along with their respective supply chains.
It is important to note that this standard specifically focuses on highway structures, and its recommendations and guidance are not meant to be applied to structures outside the scope of highways.
