The BS EN 16432-1:2017 standard outlines the general requirements for the design of ballastless track systems. This standard does not cover the inspection, maintenance, repair, or replacement of ballastless track systems during operation. It is applicable to all railway applications with axle loads up to 250 kN.
The standard includes requirements for various components, such as plain line track, switches and crossings, and rail expansion joints. It also covers different substructures, including embankments, cuttings, tunnels, bridges, and floating slabs, as well as the transitions between different substructures and ballastless track systems. Additionally, it addresses the transitions between ballasted and ballastless track systems.
It is important to note that while this standard includes requirements for characterizing the listed substructures, the design of these substructures is covered by other European Standards, such as EN 1992-2 and EN 1997-1.
