Standard EN SampleRailway Applications - Track - Noise Barriers and Related Devices Acting on Airborne Sound Propagation - Non-Acoustic Performance - Mechanical Performance Under Dynamic Loadings Caused by Passing Trains - Calculation Method
Also Known As:
BS EN 16727-2-2:2016 is a European standard that specifies the calculation method for evaluating the mechanical performance of noise barriers and related devices in railway applications. The standard focuses on the non-acoustic performance of these barriers by considering their ability to withstand dynamic loadings caused by passing trains. The loading, load model positions, and internal forces acting on the barriers are defined, taking into account the air pressure wave generated by the trains.
The calculation method described in this standard is specifically developed for noise barriers with a post-and-panel structure and piled foundations. It can also be applied to barriers with cladding attached to a rigid structure. The standard includes an empirical formula in Annex A for determining the natural frequency of structures with piled foundations. Annex B provides an example of applying the calculation method to determine the internal forces and moments acting on a mid-post.
However, it is important to note that the design of noise barriers, particularly in terms of fatigue resistance, is not covered by this standard. It solely focuses on the mechanical performance of the barriers under dynamic loadings caused by passing trains.
