Standard EN SampleTesting Concrete: Procedure and Terminology for the Petrographic Examination of Hardened Concrete
Also Known As:
The British Standard BS 1881-211:2016 provides guidelines and terminology for the examination of hardened concrete and mortar. The procedures outlined in the standard are meant to be followed by qualified or experienced concrete petrographers.
The primary method described in the standard involves the use of a polarizing petrological microscope for the examination of concrete samples made with Portland and other types of cements. However, the petrographic procedures mentioned in the standard can be applied to all types of hardened hydraulic cement-based materials, including concrete, mortar, grout, cement and gypsum-based plaster, render, terrazzo, and similar materials.
It is important to note that in this British Standard, the term "concrete" is used to refer to the material being examined, even though the information provided is also relevant to other mixtures, unless specifically excluded.
