BS EN 50556:2018 is a standard that specifies the requirements for Road Traffic Signal Systems. The standard is part of two other standards issued by CEN, namely EN 12368 (Traffic control equipment - Signal heads) and EN 12675 (Traffic signal controllers - Functional safety requirements).

The scope of this standard includes permanently and temporarily installed traffic signal control equipment, as well as portable traffic control equipment. However, it excludes portable traffic signal equipment that is only capable of controlling alternate/shuttle working lanes.
