BS 5911-1:2002+A2:2010 is a standard that specifies requirements and test methods for precast concrete pipes and fittings. These pipes and fittings can be unreinforced, steel fibre reinforced, or reinforced with flexible joints. The standard covers a range of sizes, with nominal sizes not exceeding DN 1750 or WN/HN 1200/1800. The intended use of these products is for the conveyance of sewage, rainwater, and surface water under gravity or low head pressure in buried pipelines.

The scope of BS 5911-1 also includes pipes intended to be installed using trenchless technology such as pipe jacking or microtunnelling. The standard provides complementary requirements to those specified in BS EN 1916, which is a European standard for concrete pipes and fittings. However, BS 5911-1 extends the size range beyond what is covered by BS EN 1916, including reinforced concrete circular trench and jacking pipes with nominal sizes greater than DN 1750 but not exceeding DN 3000.

While BS EN 1916 covers circular pipes with base and egg-shaped pipes, these are not within the scope of BS 5911-1. However, these products are manufactured in the UK and therefore included in this part of the standard. Steel fibre concrete jacking pipes are excluded from BS 5911-1 as they are not manufactured in the UK.

The standard also references other related standards such as BS EN 752, BS EN 1295-1, and BS EN 1610, which deal with the planning, design, installation, and testing of drains and sewers.
