Concrete Materials and Methods of Concrete Construction/Test Methods and Standard Practices for Concrete
Also Known As: CSA A23.1:19/A23.2:19
The CSA A23.1:19/CSA A23.2:19 standard is the thirteenth edition of the combined standard. It provides requirements for materials and methods of construction for cast-in-place concrete, concrete precast in the field, and residential concrete used in the construction of buildings conforming to Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC).
The standard excludes specifications for the design of concrete structures, which are provided in CSA A23.3 and CSA S6. It also does not cover designs of specialty concrete products, test methods for concrete (covered in CSA A23.2), design provisions for fire resistance of reinforced concrete structures (covered in the NBCC), requirements for plant production of precast concrete (covered in CSA A23.4), and the use of proprietary materials or methods of construction (allowed if the quality meets the minimum requirements of the standard).
The CSA A23.1:19 standard contains provisions for precasting of concrete in the field or in a plant, with guidelines provided in CSA A23.4. It also includes additional requirements for parking garages (covered in CSA S413) and allows for supplementary specifications to address proprietary materials and methods of construction or any other elements not dealt with in the standard.
The CSA A23.2:19 standard covers test methods and standard practices for hardened and freshly mixed concrete and concrete materials specified in CSA A23.1 and CSA A23.4. It includes test methods for aggregates, miscellaneous tests, concrete tests, and dimensional (molds) tests. Hazards associated with the test methods are highlighted, and the standard provides guidance on dimensions, presenting information in metric units in accordance with CAN/CSA-Z234.1.
