The standard CSA A123.1-05/A123.5-05 (R2010) titled "Asphalt Shingles Made from Organic Felt and Surfaced with Mineral Granules / Asphalt Shingles Made from Glass Felt and Surfaced with Mineral Granules" is the second edition of the combined standard. It replaces the first edition published in 1998.

The scope of this standard is to cover asphalt roofing shingles made from either saturated organic felt or impregnated glass felt. These shingles are coated on both sides with asphaltic material and have mineral granules on the weather side. The purpose of the standard is to provide evaluation criteria for these products as they are manufactured.

The shingles that fall under the coverage of this standard can be either single or multi-tab design, as well as single or multi-layer design. In cases where requirements or methods specified in other standards contradict the ones in this standard, the requirements and changes outlined in this standard take precedence.
