Concrete Pumps and Placing Booms
Also Known As:
The CAN/CSA Z151-17 standard provides comprehensive guidelines for the design, manufacture, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of concrete pumps, placing booms, and delivery systems. The standard was developed in response to an increasing number of incidents involving equipment failures and power line contacts associated with truck-mounted concrete pumps.
The second edition of the standard introduces significant changes, including the addition of roles and responsibilities, qualification requirements for concrete pump operators, updates to the sections on design, inspection and testing, and operation, as well as the inclusion of Annex A, which provides guidelines for safe work procedures, outrigger support options, and surface load bearing evaluation for concrete boom pumps.
The scope of the standard encompasses all aspects related to the mentioned equipment, including their design, manufacturing, installation, operation, responsibilities, inspection, testing, and maintenance. However, it should be noted that the standard does not apply to belt-conveying machines, mortar-spraying machines, and dry-mix shotcreting machines, as these are not within the scope of the standard.
