Standard EN SampleAir-, cable-, and frame-supported membrane structures
Also Known As:
The CSA S367-12 standard provides requirements for the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of single-membrane structures that are either reinforced or unreinforced. These structures can be air-supported, frame-supported, or cable-supported.
The standard aims to ensure the structural adequacy and long-term serviceability of these structures by specifying general requirements, structural design methods, loadings, and limit states. These requirements are intended to be consistent with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), unless more detailed or stringent requirements are necessary.
The standard applies to both independent membrane-covered structures and structures that are connected to other structures through a common element. However, it does not apply to multi-walled structures that are not supported by continuous air pressure, air-beam-supported membrane structures using pressurized air, or greenhouses that are not covered by Part 3 of the NBCC.
While this standard provides the fundamental requirements, it acknowledges that other standards can be used for the design of air-, cable-, and frame-supported membrane structures as long as the nominal margins or factors of safety are at least equal to those specified in this standard. Rational designs based on theory, analysis, and engineering practice can supplement the formulas provided in the standard, as long as they meet the required safety standards.
