SKU192953411 Published by Canadian Standards Association CSA Publication Date1991-12-01 Pages CountPages46

The standard CSA-A82.31-M91, titled Gypsum Board Application, is the fourth edition of the standard and is written in SI (metric) units. It is part of the CSA A82 Series on Gypsum and supersedes previous editions published in 1977, 1963, and 1954.

The standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Gypsum under the Jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Building Materials and Products and has been approved as a National Standard by the Standards Council of Canada.

The scope of the standard is to describe the minimum requirements for the application and finishing of gypsum board used in wall and ceiling construction, excluding gypsum board to receive plaster. It also includes the installation of framing to receive the gypsum board.

In cases where a fire resistance rating is required, the installation, including type and spacings of fasteners, must conform to the applicable fire test report and/or building code regulation, or as provided for in Chapter 2 of Fire-Performance Ratings of the Supplement to The National Building Code of Canada.

If the requirements in the standard are more stringent than the fire-rated construction, such as the size or thickness of framing or size and spacing of fasteners, the requirements of the standard will govern. However, if the construction described in the fire test report is more stringent, then it will govern.
