Connectors for Masonry
Also Known As:
CSA A370:14 (R2018) is the fourth edition of the Connectors for Masonry standard. It supersedes previous editions and includes significant changes such as new requirements on fastener materials, removal of references to typical designs, recognition of the significance of misalignment on ultimate strength, application of free play to load-deformation curve, and editorial changes to address concerns about previous terminology use.
The standard covers the minimum requirements for designing various types of masonry connectors, including ties, anchors, fasteners, and repair connectors. These connectors are used to interconnect wythes of a masonry wall, attach masonry veneer to its structural backing, connect masonry walls to intersecting walls or other structural members, attach stone to its structural backing, interconnect stone, secure masonry ties or anchors to structural members, and restore or improve masonry construction.
However, the standard does not apply to connectors for precast concrete or prefabricated masonry panels, as well as fasteners used to attach equipment or fixtures to buildings. It also recognizes two types of masonry connectors: connectors designed in accordance with the performance requirements of the standard and prescriptive connectors that offer a simple solution to meet the standard's requirements under specific limiting conditions.
