Construction of Bioretention Systems
Also Known As:
The CSA W201-18 standard provides guidelines for the construction considerations of bioretention systems. It is important to note that this standard does not have legal authority unless officially adopted by a regulatory authority. Therefore, it is advised to consult the relevant regulatory authority in order to determine the extent to which this standard has been adopted and if there are any additional requirements.
The development of this standard was influenced by various publications, including the City of Calgary Stormwater Source Control Practices Handbook (2007) and Bioretention and Bioswales (2016). The project was supported by the National Research Council of Canada as part of its Climate Resilient Buildings and Codes Infrastructure initiative.
The scope of the standard covers several aspects of construction related to bioretention systems. This includes roles and responsibilities, contract documentation, construction sequencing, erosion and sediment control, construction documentation, material supply and handling, installation considerations, landscape materials and maintenance, construction warranty maintenance, and assumption protocols.
