The DIN EN 13036-3 standard outlines a method for determining the horizontal drainability of a road surface. It specifically focuses on surfaces with relatively low texture using the outflow meter as a stationary device. The purpose of this method is to assess the drainability in the road/tyre contact area for all smooth non-porous road surfaces with a mean profile depth of less than 0.4 mm.
This standard can be applied both in field conditions and in a laboratory setting. However, since the method only measures the drainability of a small area, it is crucial to carefully select the test area to ensure it accurately represents the overall surface on which the measurements will be conducted.
