Timber Structures - Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) - Requirements

The DIN EN 14374 standard focuses on the performance characteristics and requirements for laminated veneer lumber used in timber structures. It sets out provisions for both structural and non-structural LVL for various construction applications.
The standard covers laminated veneer lumber that is made up of at least five veneers, with a maximum veneer thickness of 6mm. The LVL can include crossband veneers and can be made from different species of wood. It also addresses the treatment of the LVL, whether it is treated or untreated against biological attack, or treated to improve its reaction to fire.
Additionally, the standard defines provisions for bonding strength and the durability of bonding strength in different conditions, such as dry, humid, and exterior conditions. It covers both structural LVL, which can be used in all conditions, as well as non-structural LVL, which can be used in specific conditions based on the results of bonding strength tests.
Furthermore, the standard establishes strength classes for structural laminated veneer lumber, allowing for the classification and selection of appropriate LVL based on its strength properties.
