The DIN EN 1849-1 standard provides guidelines for determining the thickness and mass per unit area of bitumen sheets used for roof waterproofing. The standard specifies a method for measuring the thickness of most types of bitumen sheets, including those with a mineral finish applied at the factory. However, the measurement of thickness is not suitable for sheets with a pronounced surface texture or a significant fibrous backing. In such cases, the determination of mass per unit area should be used instead to characterize these products. The mass per unit area is used to verify the information provided by the manufacturer and is not applicable to perforated materials.
