DIN EN 13286-47 is a standard that provides test methods for determining the California Bearing Ratio (CBR), Immediate Bearing Index (IBI), and Linear Swelling of unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures. The standard is applicable for mixtures with a maximum particle size of 22.4 mm.
The CBR test is an important measure of the strength and load-bearing capacity of the mixture. The test involves loading a cylindrical specimen with a plunger at a constant rate and measuring the applied load and penetration depth. The CBR value is calculated as the ratio of the applied load to the penetration of the plunger.
The IBI test is similar to the CBR test, but it is specifically used for mixtures that do not swell significantly when immersed in water. It provides an indication of the load-bearing capacity of the mixture under immediate loading conditions.
In addition to these tests, the standard also includes the determination of linear swelling. This test is performed when the curing of the specimen involves immersion in water. The linear swelling is measured before the CBR test, and it provides information about the potential volume change of the mixture due to water absorption.
