Eurocode 6 - Design of Masonry Structures - Part 1-1: General Rules for Reinforced and Unreinforced Masonry Structures
Also Known As:
Eurocode 6 - Design of Masonry Structures - Part 1-1: General Rules for Reinforced and Unreinforced Masonry Structures provides the framework for designing masonry structures. It covers the design principles for both reinforced and unreinforced masonry, as well as prestressed masonry. However, it does not apply to masonry elements with a plan area of less than 0.04 m2.
The standard primarily focuses on ordinary buildings. It provides detailed rules that can be limited or simplified for practical reasons. Any limits or applicability constraints are clearly stated in the text. The standard also addresses the execution of the construction, specifying the required quality of construction materials, products, and workmanship to meet the design assumptions.
For structures and materials not covered entirely, or for new uses and influences outside normal experience, this standard can be applied with additional supplements as necessary. However, it does not cover fire resistance (which is addressed in EN 1996-1-2), dynamic effects on tall buildings, masonry bridges, dams, chimneys, liquid-retaining structures, arches or domes, masonry with gypsum or irregularly patterned courses, or masonry reinforced with materials other than steel.
