Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures - Part 3: Technical requirements for aluminium structures
Also Known As:
DIN EN 1090-3 is a European Standard that outlines the technical requirements for the execution of aluminium structures. It covers various types of aluminium components, including rolled sheet, strip, plate, extrusions, cold drawn rod, bar, tube, forgings, and castings. The standard applies to the manufacturing process of structural components, which is referred to as execution, and is independent of the type and shape of the aluminium structure.
The standard is applicable to aluminium structures under predominantly static loads as well as those subject to fatigue. It defines execution classes that are linked with consequence classes, which are defined in EN 1990. Recommendations for selecting the appropriate execution class based on the consequence class are provided in EN 1999-1-1.
The standard applies to components with a thickness of not less than 0.6 mm for welded components and not less than 1.5 mm for other components. It is intended for use in structures designed according to EN 1999, but it can also be used for structures designed according to other design rules or for other alloys and tempers not covered by EN 1999, with a judgment of the reliability elements in these design rules to be made.
The standard includes requirements for surface preparation prior to the application of a protective treatment, and provides guidelines for applying such treatment in an informative annex. It also allows for the specification of requirements that align with project-specific needs. Additionally, the standard is applicable to temporary aluminium structures.
