Determination of Shear Strength of Welded Joints of Reinforcement Mats or Cages for Prefabricated Components Made of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or Lightweight Aggregate Concrete with Open Structure
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 1737 standard provides a specific method for determining the shear strength of welded joints in reinforcement mats or cages used in the manufacturing of prefabricated components made of autoclaved aerated concrete or lightweight aggregate concrete with an open structure. The determination is done through testing on specimens that consist of a longitudinal bar and a welded cross bar. The longitudinal bar is subjected to a tensile force while the welded cross bar is supported in a way that minimizes the influence of bending and twisting forces. In cases where diagonal bars are present in the joints, the tensile force is applied to the free end of the diagonal bar. The force is increased at a uniform rate until failure of the weld occurs, and the ultimate force required for failure is recorded.
