DIN EN 846-5 standard focuses on the testing of wall ties used in masonry constructions. This standard outlines the couplet method, which is used to determine the tensile and compressive load capacity as well as the load displacement characteristics of wall ties embedded in mortar joints.
The purpose of this test is to assess the performance of wall ties in connecting two leaves of masonry or in connecting masonry leaves to other structures. By conducting the couplet test, it is possible to determine the load capacity of the ties under different load conditions, as well as the displacement characteristics when subjected to such loads.
