Sustainability of Construction Works - Environmental Product Declarations - Core Rules for Road Materials - Part 1: Bituminous Mixtures
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 17392-1 standard provides guidelines for creating environmental product declarations (EPDs) for bituminous materials used in building and civil engineering projects. These guidelines are applicable to various bitumen based products.
The standard specifies the parameters to be reported in the EPD, the EPD types and life cycle stages to be covered, and the rules to be followed in generating Life Cycle Inventories (LCI) and conducting Life Cycle Impact Assessments (LCIA). It also outlines the required data quality for the development of EPDs.
In addition to the general requirements of EN 15804, this European Standard for bituminous materials further defines the system boundaries, modeling and assessment of material-specific characteristics, allocation procedures for multi-output processes, and rules for calculating the LCI and LCIA underlying the EPD. It also provides guidance on determining the reference service life (RSL) and establishing default scenarios.
The standard is intended for cradle-to-gate assessments, focusing on the entire life cycle of the bituminous materials up until the point of production. It emphasizes the need for asphalt mixtures to be carefully designed in order to generate specific EPDs.
