Bitumen and Bituminous Binders - Specification Framework for Polymer Modified Bitumens
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 14023 standard provides a specification framework for polymer modified bitumens used in the construction and maintenance of roads, airfields, and other paved areas. The framework covers various characteristics of the bitumen, including consistency at different temperatures, cohesion, durability, brittleness at low temperature, and strain recovery. The inclusion of the cohesion property helps differentiate polymer modified bitumens from other binders.
The standard also considers essential requirements such as adhesion and setting ability, which are determined through tests conducted on finished asphalt mixtures. To facilitate selection based on local conditions, the standard introduces classes of convenience in tables, allowing for the most suitable specification for the bitumen.
The nomenclature for polymer modified bitumens includes the penetration range and the minimum softening point, as exemplified in Annex A of the standard.
