The DIN EN 13286-47 standard outlines the procedures for testing and determining the California bearing ratio (CBR) and immediate bearing index (IBI) of unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures. The standard is applicable for mixtures with a maximum particle size of 22.4 mm.
The standard includes specific test methods that are conducted in a laboratory setting. These methods involve the measurement of the CBR and IBI, which are indicators of the bearing capacity and strength of the mixture. The CBR test measures the ratio of the resistance to penetration of a plunger in the mixture to the resistance in a standard crushed stone material. The IBI test measures the bearing capacity of the mixture under immediate load.
In addition to the CBR and IBI tests, the standard also includes a procedure for determining the linear swelling of the specimen before conducting the CBR test when the immersion of the specimen in water is specified as part of the curing process.
