Annex 14 - Aerodromes - Volume I - Aerodromes Design and Operations
Also Known As: ICAO AN 14-1
Annex 14 - Aerodromes - Volume I - Aerodromes Design and Operations is a standard developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that provides specifications and guidelines for the design and operation of aerodromes. It contains standards and recommended practices related to the physical characteristics of aerodromes, including obstacle limitation surfaces and facilities and technical services provided at aerodromes.
The standard is not intended to limit or regulate aircraft operations but rather focuses on the physical aspects of aerodrome design and operation. The specifications in the standard have been interrelated through a reference code system and the designation of runway type, which promotes efficient and proportional aerodrome design when followed.
The document sets forth minimum specifications based on the characteristics of currently operating aircraft or similar planned aircraft. It does not consider additional safeguards for more demanding aircraft, which are left to the discretion of appropriate authorities. Provisions for accommodating more demanding aircraft at existing aerodromes can be found in the PANS-Aerodromes. Guidance on the potential impact of future aircraft on the standard is provided in the Aerodrome Design Manual.
