Standard EN SampleTimber Structures - Determination of Characteristic Values - Part 4: Engineered Wood Products
Also Known As:
ISO 12122-4:2017 is a standard that provides methods for determining the characteristic values of engineered wood products. These characteristic values are calculated from test values and are used to assess the performance and reliability of these products.
The standard outlines two main methods for determining the characteristic values: one for material properties and one for component properties. In the first method, the characteristic value is determined by multiplying the determined material property by a geometric parameter, which gives the component capacity or stiffness. In the second method, the characteristic value is directly determined as a component capacity or stiffness.
ISO 12122-4:2017 also differentiates between two types of characteristic values: mean-based properties and 5th percentile-based properties. The mean-based properties determine the characteristic value based on the average performance of the product, while the 5th percentile-based properties determine the value based on the critical or worst-case scenario.
