Railway Applications - Concrete Sleepers and Bearers for Track - Part 1: General Requirements
Also Known As:
ISO 22480-1:2022 is a standard that sets out the general requirements for concrete sleepers and bearers used in railway applications. The standard defines the technical criteria and control procedures that must be met for both the constituent materials and the finished products. This includes precast concrete sleepers, twin-block reinforced sleepers, bearers for switches and crossings, and special elements for railway tracks.
The standard specifies mechanical tests that must be performed to ensure the sleepers and bearers can withstand repetitive loading and maintain sufficient durability. It also establishes controls on the manufacturing processes and requires tests to be conducted to prevent degradation of the concrete due to chemical reactions and frost damage during service.
