AASHTO T 44-14 (2018) is a standard method of testing the solubility of bituminous materials. It is closely related to ASTM D2042-01 but has slight differences. The objective of this test is to determine the degree of solubility in trichloroethylene or 1,1,1 trichloroethane of asphalt materials that have minimal or no mineral matter. By measuring the portion of the material that is soluble in these solvents, it is possible to identify and quantify the active cementing constituents present in the bituminous materials. This standard provides guidelines on the procedure and precautions to be taken during the test to ensure accurate and consistent results.
