Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Test for Emulsified Asphalts
Also Known As:
AASHTO T 59-16 is a standard method of testing for emulsified asphalts. It covers various tests related to the composition, consistency, stability, and examination of residue of asphalt emulsions.
The test methods outlined in this standard are applicable to asphalt emulsions that are composed primarily of a semisolid or liquid asphalt base, water, and an emulsifying agent.
The standard includes tests such as calibration, standardization, and check; sample conditioning; composition analysis including water content, residue and oil distillate by distillation, identification of oil distillate by micro distillation, residue by evaporation, and particle charge of cationic emulsified asphalts.
Consistency testing is performed using viscosity measurements, specifically the Saybolt Furol viscosity test.
Stability tests in this standard include demulsibility, settlement, cement mixing, sieve test, coating, miscibility with water, freezing, coating ability and water resistance, and storage stability of asphalt emulsion.
Lastly, there are examination tests for residue, as well as identification tests for rapid setting cationic emulsified asphalt, cationic slow set emulsions, and field coating on emulsified asphalts. A weight per gallon measurement is also included in the standard.
