Standard ENStandard Method of Test for Total Evaporable Moisture Content of Aggregate by Drying
Also Known As:
AASHTO T 255-00 (2021), also known as ASTM C566-97(2004), is a standard method used to determine the total evaporable moisture content of aggregate by drying. It provides a procedure for quantifying the percentage of moisture in both the surface and pores of the aggregate. The test method aims to exclude non-evaporable water that may be chemically bound to the minerals present in the aggregate.
The standard specifies the equipment and test conditions required for conducting the test, including the use of an oven and a balance. The sample is first dried in the oven to remove the surface moisture, and then subjected to a longer drying period to eliminate the moisture present in the pores of the aggregate.
It is important to note that this test method does not account for the water content that is chemically combined with the minerals in the aggregate, as that water is non-evaporable and not included in the final moisture percentage determined by this test method.
