Standard EN SampleStandard Practice for Assessment of Highway Performance of Transverse Pavement Profiling Systems
Also Known As:
AASHTO PP 109-21 provides guidelines for assessing the accuracy and precision of transverse pavement profilers (TPPs) during normal dynamic operation. The standard focuses on evaluating specifications such as transverse measurement spacing, effective transverse width, longitudinal measurement spacing, and vertical measurement error.
In addition to evaluating TPP specifications, the standard also assesses deformation parameters such as rut depth, cross slope, vertical magnitude of an edge/curb, and transverse location of an edge/curb. These assessments involve comparing the TPP's measured deformation parameters to those calculated from ground reference data that comply with AASHTO PP 110.
The standard emphasizes the need for accurate and repeatable transverse measurements for data collection at both the network and project levels. It also makes clear that, in case of any conflicts, this practice takes precedence over referenced documents such as ASTM Standards.
To thoroughly assess and certify a TPP under typical operating conditions, this standard practice should be conducted in conjunction with three other standard practices: PP 106 for static assessment, PP 107 for body motion assessment, and PP 108 for drift mitigation assessment.
