Standard EN SampleStandard Specification for Stainless Clad Deformed and Plain Round Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 329M/M 329-11 (2019) standard specifies the requirements for stainless steel clad concrete reinforcement bars. These bars can be in the form of cut lengths or coils and can either be deformed or plain round. The standard recognizes three different minimum yield levels for the bars: 300 MPa [40,000 psi], 420 MPa [60,000 psi], and 520 MPa [75,000 psi], which are referred to as Grade 300 [40], Grade 420 [60], and Grade 520 [75], respectively.
For hot-rolled plain rounds with a diameter of up to 50.8 mm [2 in.], whether in coils or cut lengths, the standard specifies that they should be supplied in Grade 300 [40], Grade 420 [60], or Grade 520 [75]. These plain rounds are primarily used for purposes such as dowels, spirals, and structural ties or supports. The standard notes that the ductility properties of these plain rounds, such as elongation and binding, should be tested according to the provisions applicable to the nearest nominal diameter deformed bar size. However, the requirements for deformations and marking that apply to deformed bars are not applicable to plain rounds.
It is also worth noting that for plain rounds smaller than 9.5 mm [3/8 in.] in diameter, the weight calculation should be based on the size specified in ASTM A 510/A 510M.
