Standard ENStandard Specification for Uncoated, Corrosion-Resistant, Deformed and Plain Alloy, Billet-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement and Dowels
Also Known As:
The AASHTO MP 18M/MP 18-15 standard specifies the requirements for uncoated, corrosion-resistant, deformed and plain alloy billet-steel bars used for concrete reinforcement and dowels. The standard covers bars in various sizes and dimensions, designated as Grade 420 [60], Grade 520 [75], and Grade 690 [100], each with different minimum yield levels.
The standard also includes provisions for hot-rolled plain rounds used for dowels, spirals, and structural ties or supports. These plain rounds are available in sizes up to and including 50 mm [2 in.] in diameter.
Ductility properties are evaluated based on the nearest nominal diameter deformed bar size, and requirements for deformations and marking do not apply in the case of ductility testing.
Note 3 indicates that the weight calculation for plain rounds smaller than 10 mm [3/8 in.] in diameter should be based on the size specified in ASTM A510/A510M.
Note 4 highlights the welding requirements for the material listed in the standard. It recommends following the AWS D1.4 Structural Welding Code - Reinforcing Steel and the applicable sections of AWS D1.6 Structural Welding Code - Stainless Steels. In cases where the material is not addressed in these specifications, the manufacturer should be consulted for a welding procedure.
It is important to note that the specification is available in both SI units (MP 18M) and inch-pound units (MP 18), with the applicable values being determined based on the unit system chosen when ordering the material.
