The AASHTO M 252-21 standard provides guidelines and requirements for corrugated polyethylene (PE) pipe, couplings, and fittings used in subsurface drainage systems, storm sewers, and surface drainage applications such as culverts.
The standard covers nominal sizes ranging from 75 to 250 mm (3 to 10 inches). It specifies materials, dimensions, pipe stiffness, environmental stress-crack resistance, perforations, joining systems, and forms of marking.
One important note mentioned in the standard is that when using PE pipe in locations where the pipe ends may be exposed, it is necessary to consider the combustibility of the PE material and the potential deteriorating effects of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
