Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Test for Determining the Flexural Creep Stiffness of Asphalt Binder Using the Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR)
Also Known As:
AASHTO T 313-19 is a standard method that outlines the procedure for determining the flexural creep stiffness or compliance of asphalt binders using a bending beam rheometer (BBR). This method is specifically designed for asphalt binders with a flexural stiffness value ranging from 20 MPa to 1 GPa and creep compliance values from 50 nPa-1 to 1 nPa-1. The test can be performed on both unaged material and material that has been aged through the use of T240 (RTFOT) or R 28 (PAV) aging procedures, or a combination of both.
The test apparatus used in this method is capable of testing within a temperature range of -36 to 0° C, allowing for the evaluation of the material's flexural creep stiffness under various temperature conditions. It should be noted, however, that test results are considered invalid for asphalt binders that deflect more than 4mm or less than 0.08 mm during the test. These parameters ensure that the test is conducted within an acceptable range of deformation to obtain accurate and reliable results.
