Standard EN SampleStandard Practice for Solid Wall High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Conduit for Non-Pressure Applications Used for the Protection of Power and Telecommunications Cables
Also Known As:
AASHTO R 63-13 is a standard practice that provides guidance for the specification of solid wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit used for non-pressure applications. This standard primarily focuses on the use of HDPE conduit for the protection of power and telecommunications cables in various applications such as highways, airport lighting, traffic control, and fiber optic data and command and control systems in State Transportation Projects.
The standard covers the use of HDPE conduit in different configurations. It includes HDPE pipe used as a casing to protect smaller individual conduits or innerducts in road crossings. It also covers HDPE conduit in coils, on steel reels, or in straight sticks, as well as the use of cable in conduit (CIC) installations, where power cables, coaxial cables, or fiber optic cables are installed in the conduit during the manufacturing process.
HDPE conduit is commonly installed in standalone duct applications for the protection of power cables, CATV (coaxial), or fiber optic cables. It can be used in road crossings when the bury depth is sufficient to avoid degradation effects on the road. Additionally, HDPE conduit is often installed parallel to the roadway in standalone duct applications.
