The AASHTO T 301-13 (2017) standard provides a procedure for determining the elastic recovery of asphalt materials. This is achieved by using a ductilometer and briquet specimens.
The test method involves pulling apart the specimens at a specified rate of 5 cm/min (2 in./min) and holding them at a predetermined elongation. After a specified time, typically 1 hour, the specimens are severed at the center and allowed to recover undisturbed.
The standard specifies that the test should be conducted at a temperature of 25 ± 0.5°C (77 ± 1.0°F), unless otherwise stated. This allows for consistency and comparability of test results.
