The ACI ITG-5.1-07 standard is specifically applicable to regions with high seismic risk or structures assigned to high seismic performance or design categories. Its purpose is to establish the minimum experimental evidence required for the use of unbonded post-tensioned precast structural walls (shearwalls) when they do not fully meet the prescriptive requirements of Chapter 21 of ACI 318-05. This document consists of mandatory Acceptance Criteria and nonmandatory Commentary, and it can be easily coordinated with the requirements for special precast structural walls in Section 21.8 of ACI 318-05.
The standard covers various aspects, including the design procedures and configurations for the unbonded post-tensioned precast test modules, as well as the requirements for testing, reporting, and evaluating the satisfactory performance of these modules. The Commentary section provides additional references to support the acceptance criteria, in addition to those already provided in Chapter 21 of ACI 318-05. Notably, the standard does not compare the research results between precast test modules satisfying ACI 318 and those that satisfy the Acceptance Criteria but not ACI 318. However, such comparisons, both experimental and analytical, can be found in the references provided in the Commentary.
The format of the document aligns with ACI 318-05, where the word "Section" is omitted before references to sections of ACI 318-05. However, to avoid confusion, the word "Section" is used before references to sections within the ACI ITG-5.1-07 standard.
