International Symposium on Confined Concrete
Also Known As:
The ACI SP-238:2006 standard is a compilation of 28 papers presented at the International Symposium on Confined Concrete (ISCC-2004) held in Changsha, China in June 2004. The symposium aimed to provide a platform for global researchers to exchange information and discuss various aspects related to confined concrete modeling, testing, design implementation, and other relevant issues. The papers cover a wide range of topics including performance-based design and seismic analysis, confined concrete models, finite element modeling, confined concrete in steel and concrete composites, and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) confined concrete.
Major organizations sponsoring the symposium included the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Japan Concrete Institute (JCI), and the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ). The publication acknowledges the assistance of ACI staff in finalizing the special publication, as well as the host university and co-organizers for their support.
The table of contents shows the different papers presented at the symposium, categorized into sections such as performance-based design and seismic analysis, confined concrete models, finite element modeling, confined concrete in steel and concrete composites, and FRP confined concrete. The papers cover topics ranging from the behavior and modeling of FRP-confined concrete to experimental investigation into strengthening of RC columns using composite mortar laminates reinforced with mesh reinforcements.
