Durability and Sustainability of Concrete Structures

ACI SP-305:2015 standard addresses the challenges faced by the concrete industry in meeting the needs of sustainable development. The standard acknowledges that the concrete industry is the largest consumer of natural resources and a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, causing environmental concerns. The goal of the standard is to find ways to make concrete structures more durable and sustainable while reducing the industry's impact on the environment.
The standard includes a collection of forty-eight refereed papers on various topics related to durability and sustainability. These topics range from reduction in greenhouse gases in cement and concrete production, use of recycled materials and innovative binders, and life cycle assessment of concrete construction, to repair and maintenance, testing, inspection, and monitoring of concrete structures. The papers address practical issues and present research findings and case studies to promote sustainable practices in the concrete industry.
The standard, sponsored by the American Concrete Institute Italy Chapter and the University of Bologna, emphasizes the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers, industry professionals, and stakeholders. It recognizes the efforts of the technical paper review panel and the authors whose contributions made the publication possible.
